We had visitors from Oregon and things got a bit chaotic.
I started what was going to be a long tank-top shirt before their visit and then decided to add an extra layer at the bottom to make it a dress.
It started as one of Aaron's t-shirts:
and then I cut the neck square:
gathered and pinned the front and back necklines:
Sewed on some trim from an old gray maternity shirt and this is how the tank-top looked:
I was experimenting and pinning the arm holes in that picture. I still don't have them figured out.
And then I decided to cut the bottom of the gray maternity shirt and add it to the tank-top and voila! a t-shirt dress:
I still need to add some trim around the arm holes. It is quite comfy and I'm liking the fit. Also, it makes my boobs look bigger which is always an added bonus. ;)
One more pair of toddler pants. This week I have to make presents for my nephew's birthday party, so clothing refashioning is on hold.
In the meantime, here is another quick pair of easy kid's pants. Made from a striped polo shirt of mine that I never wore once my husband told me I looked like Waldo (from Where's Waldo...).
So, pants it became.
From these easy pants instructions.
Sophie wouldn't let me take a photo of her wearing them. Trust me when I tell you they looked very cute on her. I love the slightly cropped length with little kid sandals. Adorable.
Up next: Drape-neck blouse. Just need to find the perfect fabric in my closet for this.
Ooh, and this valance top for Sophie. Just have to find an old valance curtain...
Yoga Pants!
I cut up Aaron's old turtleneck that I hated. He looked ridiculous in it. Sorry, Sweetie, but you did. You know it.
I had issues with the waistband and ripped out the seam a couple of times.
I cut the arms off the Yankees shirt I was using for Sophie's pants because I needed the hem for the top of the waistband.
And then I tried them on inside out to adjust the fit. Here's are the side adjustment lines. They are still a little loose so I might take them in a bit more now that I've been wearing them.
All in all, definitely something I'd do again.
As for the Snopherdoodle's pants, I took a capri-length pair of pants and used them as the pattern.
I wasn't concentrating when I started sewing the sides and crotch up and I had to rip out yet more seams. Ripping seams is my least favorite thing to do.
She was already asleep when I finished, so I'll have to get a photo of her wearing them tomorrow.
Imagine them on a cute little wiggly girl.
I'm going to attempt these yoga pants tonight.
And these easy kids pants, if I can get Sophie to sleep at a decent time. She's had a rough few days with heat and humidity. Actually, last night she fell asleep early because we finally hooked up the A/C (by running an extension cord from the bathroom to our room...)
I'm a bit late to posting this on my site, but I signed up for 2 months of Wardrobe Refashioning.
As such, here is my pledge:
I pledge that I shall abstain from the purchase of "new" manufactured items of clothing, for the period of 2 months. I pledge that I shall refashion, renovate, recycle pre-loved items for myself with my own hands in fabric, yarn or other medium for the term of my contract. I pledge that I will share the love and post a photo of my refashioned, renovated, recycled, crafted or created item of clothing on the Wardrobe Refashion blog, so that others may share the joy that thy thriftiness brings! Signed, Erika.
(confession: I *did* buy a pair of pants for Aaron this weekend at Old Navy. But they were 50% off and I had a gift card. So, does that count as "buying"?)
I'm thinking I'm going to make some more pants/shorts for Sophie for the summer. And maybe look into fixing up some shirts for me.
I'd also like to try and make Sophie a pillowcase dress that I keep seeing all over the internets.
